- 英國近年開始質疑檢方濫用「虛假幫派敘事」以取得定罪——即便缺乏確切證據，檢方仍將少數族裔被告描繪成幫派成員，使其入罪。英國刑事上訴法院已受理部分相類案件之上訴。與此同時，薩爾瓦多卻基於「反幫派非常時期」的理由，修法放寬對於個別參與關係的舉證要求。聯合國與人權團體警告，如此可能產生大量系統性冤案。
- 11月20日，美國紐澤西州最高法院裁定不得再以「搖晃嬰兒症候群」作為兒童虐待的定罪證據。曾因SBS假說而遭判死刑的羅伯特・羅伯森（Robert Roberson）辯護團隊，呼籲德州法院參考此裁定，重視羅伯森的冤情與此類證據的科學爭議。
- 美國部分檢察機關設有定罪完善小組（CIUs）後，檢討並矯正有瑕疵的定罪。近期也有也有檢察機關開始針對個案啟動警示事件調查（sentinel event review），檢討釀生冤案的系統性問題。費城檢察官近期針對艾瑞克・安德森（Eric Anderson）案提出調查報告，點出本案彰顯的數十項制度性錯誤與改革可能。
